Vulcan Concepcíon and Airport

On Ometepe Island there is this airstrip. It is crossed by the main road the goes around the island. When there is a plane landing the road is closed. This woud be a great airport to land at with the view outside your window.

Punta Jesus Maria

Punta Jesus Maria is on the Island of Ometepe. It is inside the Lake of Nicaragua. The island is made up of two Volcano’s. The largest is Vulcan Concepcion pictured here. The Volcano is 1610m tall. You are able to hike it. I did not though.

Punta Jesus Maria is located between Moyogalpa and San Jose. It is simple to find. The local busses can even drop you off at the end of the road.

Vulcan Baru

Vulcan Baru is the largest mountain in Panama. It sits at 3,474m (11,398 ft) above sea level. I hiked up and back in a day. The sunrise is spectacular. I got a chance to see the Caribbean and the Pacific Oceans at the same time for the top.

On the top of the volcano sits this cross. To me it was a reminder that every day is a gift that is given to us and we should treat each day as it is our last.

Mountains of Li River

I spent a day traveling along the Li River between Guilin and Yangshuo. The day was raining. Most of the mountains were hidden by the low lying cloud. The day wasn’t going to be the best for a boat cruise. It turned out really well though. The low clouds created a mystery and added drama. This is one of the many photos I took between the rain. Most of the time I hid in a corner on the boat trying my best to dodge the rain and keep my camera dry. I did learn that a shopping bag is a goo way to stop the rain. There were not plastic bags in my bag that day. Continue reading “Mountains of Li River”
